About Dan

Daniel Lilienthal, M.Ed., is a thought leader, author, and social entrepreneur, with a passion for inspiring connections, and empowering ideas.

Dan’s career has been an expedition of learning, adventure, and service. He has worked as an Outward Bound instructor in South Africa, a special education teacher in NYC public schools, a program associate at one of Warren Buffet’s family foundations, and a grants manager supporting faculty research and programs at Harvard University.

He is also the author of the self-published book, “College Daze: The Need for Innovative Education Reform,” published at the age of 23, and has authored numerous articles, thought pieces, and research briefs, on topics related to social-emotional learning, experiential and outdoor education, and social innovation and impact.

Dan has a particular interest in Outward Bound, the oldest outdoor and experiential school globally, where is has been both a student, instructor, and community leader, for nearly two decades. His ground-breaking “Extended Outward Bound Model,” released in 2024, is designed to connect and empower thousands of Outward Bound participants globally with meaningful community and content to help them pursue and achieve goals, and achieve positive social and emotional well-being.

Dan’s research and writing summarizes best practices and ideas in education, alumni engagement, and non-profit leadership, and illuminates ways that social impact organizations, including Outward Bound schools globally, can design their post-course engagement strategies to drive impact, and grow revenue, for their organizations.

Through research, writing, creativity, collaboration, and leadership, Dan’s works impact individuals, teams, and organizations, helping them to achieve their full potential.

When not working, Dan can be found hiking with friends and his dog Sadie.
